9/6 High School XC Weekend Recap

PTXC (PA)

September 06, 2014 "The Farm Course" at Kutztown University in Kutztown, PA

In a duel between two girls who have run around 4:50 in the mile and among the top cross country runners in the Northeast, Pennridge's Marissa Sheva was able to pull away from Cumberland Valley's Mady Clahane for a 9 second win with her final time of 18:48. The two runners were clearly the class of the field at the PTXC as Clahane in second place with her time of 18:57 was 57 seconds ahead of the third runner to cross the finish line. Clahane also led her Cumberland Valley squad to victory with a team score of 88 points total.

The course record went down in the boys race at the feet of Colin Abert from Easton Area with his winning performance of 15:21 in the gold race bettering the old Kutztown University course record by over 20 seconds. Last year's Nike Cross Nationals team qualifiers out of the Southeast in Maryland 3A state champions Severna Park appear to be formidable again in 2014 in claiming the boys team title at PTXC by a margin of 30 points.
