10 Girls Teams To Watch

Blacksburg (VA)

The Blacksburg girls of Virginia were a top 15 ranked team and flirting with top 10 all last fall heading into the Nike Cross Nationals, but picked a bad day to have their worst team race of the season to finish 21st of 22 teams at Portland Meadows. Bouncing back with an indoor national title in the 4xmile relay to redeem themselves in a national meet, the Blacksburg girls return 6 of their top 7 back from last fall who all have run 11:30 or faster in the 3200 including 3 well under 11 minutes in Bonnie Angermeier, Jennifer Fleming, and Emily Beatty. Improved front running with a top 6 all capable of running 18 minute 5K's will be the difference for Blacksburg to go from a back of the pack team at NXN to top 10 finishers like their Stevens twins led squad a few back did at Portland Meadows to propel the program to a top 10 finish. 4-time Virginia state individual champ Angermeier will be the one to kick start that surge to the front in the big-time races for Coach James Demarco and the Blacksburg girls.
