Analysis: Carter Cheeseman went head to head last year with some of the top guys in the country week in and week out despite competing for a small private school in Texas. In his first race of the season, he beat eventual Foot Locker Nationals runner-up Graydon Morris. A few weeks later he competed at the Great American Cross Country Festival in North Carolina where he finished sixth behind almost all seniors. Cheeseman was a national qualifier for both NXN and Foot Locker after he won the NXN South Region meet and placed fourth at the Foot Locker South regional. At NXN he was 36th but came back big to place sixth at Foot Locker Nationals. He's run a track 5K PR of 14:36.60 which won him the 2017 Texas Distance Festival title. The rising senior also had a 2-mile PR of 8:57.33 from the Brooks PR Invitational where he placed seventh.
