The Scoop: Marion Humphrey Triples In Alabama At State

Dustin Horter Drops US No. 1 Full Mile In 4:04

Can race, will travel.

That should be the motto of Lakota East (OH) High senior Dustin Horter, who dropped a US No. 1 time in the full mile -- and at the 1600m split -- at the Rod Russell Mason Invitational in Mason, Ohio, on Friday in 4:03.40.

After letting the opening lap go out in front of him, Horter took control at 550 meters and began to push the pace from there.

With fans and teammates cheering all around him, the Indiana University recruit struck a new career best and now stands atop the nation at the distance.

Colonel Crawford's Chad Johnson, headed to Iowa State in the fall, was second in a new career best of 4:09.01. Wadsworth's Nick Miller (4:11.24) and Gabe Szalay (4:15.34) came through in third and fourth, respectively, while Buckeye Valley's Zach Kreft, a Notre Dame recruit, was fifth in 4:19.00.
