Weekend Rundown: Katelyn Tuohy Wins First Ever NYSPHSAA Cross Country Title

First To Perfect

The Loudoun Valley (VA) boys cross country team, ranked No. 2 in the Flo50 national rankings, became the first Virginia team to post a perfect score at the Virginia High School League's Group 4A championships on Friday with a point total of 15

Vikings junior Sam Affolder crossed the line in 15:20, the top overall time across the Virginia state championships, while teammate Peter Morris was second in 15:26. Senior Colton Bogucki was third in 15:55, Jacob Hunter was fourth in 15:56 and Connor Wells was fifth in 16:04.0.

The Vikings' sixth and seventh runners were eighth and 37th.

A fully dominant display, as evidence of Affolder's reaction after he crossed the line: he turned around and pointed to the boys behind him, all in gold jerseys and green shorts.

"Look at that," Affolder told the Washington Post afterward.

Class 4A Girls

The Blacksburg girls, ranked No. 22 on the Flo50 rankings,  scored another state win on Friday, posting 34 points while second-place Loudoun Valley followed with 58.

The squad was led by sophomore Kaitlynn Wolfe, who was second overall in 18:17, just a second behind winner Natalie Morris of Loudoun Valley.

Blacksburg was next in third with Ailene Edwards, then followed in sixth, 15th and 17th.

Around Virginia

South Lakes senior Olivia Beckner, a Syracuse recruit, had the top overall girls time in Class 6A, posting a winning time of 18:12 at the Great Meadow state course.
