Loomis Chaffee (CT) High School's Matthew Farrell after Foot Locker Nationals in 2018.
The Foot Locker Northeast boys region will see a bit of a rebuilding year after a strong 2019 class. Four of the top five guys who ran the region meet last fall have all graduated.
Leading the charge is Allentown (NJ) High School's Liam Murphy
. Murphy finished fourth last year at the region meet (15:38.20
5) and 33rd at Foot Locker Nationals (16:20.3 54). On the track this spring Murphy ran well clocking PRs in the 3200m (9:04.43) and 1600m (4:18.67). With experience from the national race under his belt, he will be one of the guys to watch as a potential to come out of the Northeast Region.
Three other key guys to watch who also have nationals experience are Mount Lebanon (PA) High School's Patrick Anderson, Pittsford (NY) Mendon High School's Sam Lawler, and
Loomis Chaffee (CT) High School's Matthew Farrell. They finished sixth, seventh, and eighth, respectively, at Foot Locker Northeast. At nationals, Farrell had the best finish of the group with a 23rd.
Over the track season, all three ran sub-9:30 for 3200m, with Lawler leading the way with a 9:04.43, followed by Farrell who ran a 9:12.00, and then Anderson with a 9:25.50. Anderson, however, led the way with 1600m PRs, running 4:13.47.
Another strong runner to watch is Mainland Regional (NJ) High School's Kevin Antczak
. He just missed the cutoff for Foot Locker Nationals as he finished 16th at the region meet, and the rising senior has one of the fastest returning 5K times in the Northeast Region with a 15:16.85 from the CAL Championships. He also ran some strong times on the track this past spring, dropping a 9:09.38 3200m and a 4:19.65 1600m.
