Training Details: We drove past the hill we had to workout at and the girls pointed to it and said, "there it is." Then I replied, "PFFFF, YEAH RIGHT. THAT IS WAAAY TOO STEEP. You are kidding me, right?" I saw their faces and knew they weren't kidding…doh!

Mentality
I can't talk enough about having a good mentality. Sure, we are human, we have our ups and downs, but for training and racing we have to force ourselves to think positively. During the 10k on the track, sometimes I chant to myself in my head. The same couple of words over and over again. I have talked about this before, but it really has helped me tough through a lot of races. "Hurt, heart, hurt, heart" is the one I chanted the most during my most challenging races. Hurt, to remind myself it is supposed to hurt! And heart, to remember that if I run with my heart fully into it, I would be willing to suffer through more pain. One truly has to make a conscious during a race to not let the mind wander to negative places! I remember one cross race I ran when that happened to me and I thought to myself, "where is a root I can realistically trip on," needless to say, that was the worst race I have had to this day!!! My head was so far out of it that I forgot I had to suffer to be able to run a better race than I had! Skinny always said to suffer in training so your competitors will suffer later…And if you are willing to suffer more than others in a race,it's like having a head start. If you have that mentality, you will already have beaten a lot of people on that starting line! It is SUPPOSED to hurt! That is always what I remind myself.
