NON AND USATF U20 CHAMPIONSHIPS | EUGENE

Hayward Field ran two national championships at once this week, and by Sunday the results from both had piled up into one long list of names worth remembering.

Tate Taylor broke his own national 200m record, running 19.94 two weeks after becoming the first U.S. high schooler ever to break 20 seconds. Mia and Mariah Maxwell swept the 100m and 200m together and both qualified for the World U20 Team in the same two races. Zacchaeus Brocks ran the first wind-legal sub-13 second 110m hurdles by an American high schooler, taking down a record that had stood for 17 years.

Melanie Doggett, 15 years old and a freshman, swept the 100m and 200m at the high school championship and tied the national freshman class record in the 200m with a 22.48, the exact time Tamari Davis ran as a freshman back in 2018.

Natalie Dumas won the 400m in 52.21 for the eighth national title of her career and also won the 400m hurdles at U20s in 56.13. Paige Sheppard took the 800m at U20s in 2:01.76. Leah Starkey broke the national sophomore record and the New Jersey state record in the 2-mile, running 9:46.57. Simon Rosselli won his third discus title at his third different meet of the spring, closing it out with a 68.78m throw on the meet's final day.

Jaslene Massey qualified for the World U20 Championships in both the shot put and discus. Rebekah-Jhade Garrett broke the Arizona state record, won at Nike Outdoor Nationals, and made the World U20 Team. Hannah Nuhfer threw her way to third in the discus at U20s, one spot short of joining her. Riley Siner of Lafayette, Louisiana ran the fastest 800m in state history, 2:10.76. Mia Sirois won the U20 5000m title, and Blair Bartlett finished fourth in that race in 16:29.84.
