LUTKENHAUS TAKES ON THE 1500M

The last time Cooper Lutkenhaus raced anything close to a 1500m was May 2025, when he ran a 4:06.33 mile at the Lonestar Elite Invite. Since then he ran 1:42.27 in the 800m, won the World Indoor Championship in Torun, and turned professional. On Saturday at Sound Running's Track Fest at Drake Stadium at UCLA, he skipped the last day of school to race a 1500m.

He ran 3:45.10 in heat 3, placing 9th. The Stockholm Diamond League on June 7 is next. Emmanuel Wanyonyi, the reigning Olympic and World Champion in the 800m, is waiting. The 1500m at Track Fest was not the point. It was the practice.
