What does it take to be amongst the top in the country by the time you get to your senior year in high school?  We took a look at the top 100 athletes in each sprint event from 55m to 500m to get an overall picture of what the journey of improvement looks like for top athletes over their four years of high school.

When did they start running?  When did things start to click to their journey to being amongst the top of the country?  Ataja Stephane-Vazquez (Southeast Guilford, NC) got her start seriously running her sophomore year where she ran 1:22.06 for the 500m indoors, where now she is the North Carolina State Record Holder at 1:10.95.  On the flip side, you have athletes like Sophie Rambo (Grassfield, VA) who ran 1:15.27 over as a freshman to be the VHSL Class 6 Runner-Up and worked her way down to holding the National Record of 1:10.07.
