In an era of racing that has such a large emphasis on times, we occasionally forget why we race - to win. Winning races has become an afterthought in cross country, yet it could be argued is all that matters in our beautiful sport.
HSAA's Graham Hummel (TX) enjoyed a hot start to his cross country season, picking up a significant win at the Waxahachie Woodhouse Invitational. The sophomore crossed the line in a 14:29.40, posting a 38-second personal best in his season opener. Hummel would go on to finish 2nd at September's Nike South meet before capping off his season with a win at Texas' Home School State Championships.
