Since we last looked at the most improved mid-distance runners, a pair of national records have been broken. Last month, Justin Northwest (Texas) sophomore Cooper Lutkenhaus shattered the seven-year-old national record in the 800m, running 1:46.86 at the 117th Millrose Games.
This last weekend, Pulaski County's (Va.) Cole Boone broke the longstanding 1000m record that had not been touched since 2009, running 2:20.14 at the VHSL Class 3 State Championships.
As we head into national championship weekend, there's no telling what records are untouchable and which ones are in jeopardy. With how well the nation's high schoolers have been running this winter, it's safe to say that any record is up for grabs.
