WATCH: Kaden Evans Closes HARD At RTC, Grabs Meet Record

The hot heat of the 3,200m on Friday at the RunningLane Track Championships was all Ty Steorts

Well, until it wasn't.

The Hurricane (WV) High School junior and reigning Penn Relays 3K champion took out the race, gapped the field and then kept his foot on the gas, forcing the field to keep pace.

But with one lap to go, as his plans started to wane, American Fork's Kaden Evans entered the picture.

The junior from Utah -- who had run 8:46 at Arcadia in March -- closed in 60 seconds, gobbling up the space between Steorts and finished in a new meet record of 8:44.77 as he led 15 boys under nine minutes and scored a U.S. No. 19 time in the process.

Steorts left with a time of 8:46.53 for his efforts, which gave him a top 21 time in the country.
