Over the weekend in Rome, Georgia, Marist High School junior Tommy Latham picked up his sixth and seventh GHSA Class 6A state titles.
None was more dominant, and epic, than his 1,600m.
Latham gave the crowd one heck of a show in the four-lap race, breaking the 25-year-old 1,600m state record of 4:03 and blowing away the field with a 4:01.66, becoming the first Georgian ever under 4:02.
Nationwide, Latham's pair of state records this year puts him No. 2 and No. 22 in the 1,600m and 3,200m and denotes him as one of the top returners next year.
The recently-announced North Carolina commit played an integral role in Marist's runner-up team performance, winning both distance titles along with anchoring the 4x800m relay to a runner-up finish behind Gainesville in 7:56.36.
Latham's weekend got started with the 3,200m on Thursday evening, pulling away from the field for an eight-second win in 9:15.36. For Latham, this was his second-fastest time this season, behind his 8:48 state record performance at the Arcadia Invitational earlier this season.
Latham isn't done just yet, as he's set to head to the RunningLane Track Championships next weekend to see if he can go under 4:00 before he heads into his senior year.
