Just over four years ago, Friends' Central's (PA) Lydia Russell and West Chester Henderson's (PA) Jenna Mulhern delivered a 2-mile battle for the ages at the Ocean Breeze Invitational.

It was 2020 when two of Pennsylvania's top distance stars were still barely separated from one another despite 16 laps of back-and-forth battling.

Throughout the race, Russell and Mulhern each made moves to take the lead, though it was Russell who ultimately had enough left in the tank to charge past Mulhern down the final stretch.

She crossed in 10:35:18, which was then the No. 10 time during the 2020 season.

Mulhern was less than a second back, respectively, crossing in 10:35.93, which was the No. 11 time in the country.

Both went on to compete at the Division I level, with Russell heading to the University of Oregon while Mulhern went south to Furman. Russell is now on Arizona's new women's triathlon team, while Mulhern is still with the Paladins.
