Top Returning Hurdler Michelle Smith Commits To Georgia

The University of Georgia will add the fastest 400m hurdler to their roster next fall.

Montverde Academy's (FL) Michelle Smith signed her National Letter Of Intent and made her commitment to become a Bulldog on Tuesday afternoon.

During the spring, Smith was undefeated in the 400mH and clocked under 60 seconds in all six of her races last outdoor season. She capped off her junior year with a personal best of 56.66, which was the nation's fastest recorded time of the year.

Smith, the third-best recruit in the MileSplit Class of 2024 rankings, was the New Balance Nationals Outdoor champion in the long hurdles over the summer. At the state level, she won the FHSAA Outdoor State Championship title in the 300mH with a personal best of 41.56 in 2022.

She even competed against the best at the international level, gaining experience as she excelled among some of the world's best youth athletes.

Smith was the silver medalist at the Pan American U20 Championships this summer with a 57.99 400mH effort. This month, the British Virgin Islands athlete competed at the Pan American Games in Chile and finished fourth with a 57.53 performance.

In 2022, Smith competed at the World U20 Championships and finished fifth in her primary event with a time of 57.48.

Over the course of her career so far, Smith has also logged a personal best of 2:07 in the 800m, which helped her win the FSU Relays title back in March.

Smith will join top recruits including Rylee Hampton, Christian Miller, Skylynn Townsend and Xai Ricks in Georgia's 2024 recruiting class.
