Last year, history was made by Valor Christian's Brooke Wilson.
By the end of the Colorado Class 5A State Cross Country Championships, she had broken 17 minutes for 5K, clocking a finishing time of 16:59.20.
Wilson tore down both Allie McLaughlin's 14-year standing meet record and Brie Oakley's six-year long course record.
Although Wilson said she did not expect such an outcome, sometimes it is your day. Year-over-year, Wilson shaved off roughly 45 seconds from her runner-up bid the year before.
She went on to take third at the NXR Southwest Regional meet, then made more history, claiming a runner-up finish at Nike Cross Nationals in December.
