Thursday Throwback: Taylor Ewert Is Driven By The Details

Beavercreek (OH) legend Taylor Ewert ('20) is an athlete like none-other.

Back in high school, she could do anything.

The 2K steeplechase? She's your girl. A 5,000m in cross country? She's your girl. How about the 10K racewalk? You know the deal, she's your girl

During her time at Beavercreek, Ewert became one of the best distance runners in the country and a legendary racewalker. She scored a runner-up finish at Nike Cross Nationals, a sixth-place finish at Foot Locker Nationals and multiple state titles in Ohio. It's also worth noting that while Ewert could take care of business running, she simultaneously thrived as a race walker, winning the USATF U20 10,000m racewalk in 2019.

It takes a strong combination of determination and grit to reach her level of talent in either discipline, but to do so in both required a lot of attention to detail. With her daily planner by her side, full of highlights, bolded words and dozens of meet results, Ewert was more than ready to tackle whatever training regiment she had day in and day out.

Since the MileSplit team had the chance to get a glimpse of the daily routine for the phenom in 2019, Ewert graduated and started her collegiate career at the University of Arkansas, where she won a pair of races and even earned All-SEC honors.

To top that, Ewert trained through her outdoor season in 2021, focusing on the racewalk, where she eventually placed sixth in the 20,000m racewalk at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials. Now, she is a Michigan State Spartan and ready to take on the Big 10.
