Bentonville Picks Up Another Big Win In Texas; The Arkansas Boys Program Wins Lucas Lovejoy XC Festival

Twenty-three seconds. 

That was difference between Bentonville's first and fifth runners on Saturday at the Lucas Lovejoy XC Festival. 

Cross country spreads aren't all made equal. You can have a tight spread and a mediocre average. You can have a wide spread and a fast overall performance. 

But when you have a microscopic compression and a blitzing team average, there's potential in the air. 

And that's exactly how the Bentonville boys positioned themselves on Saturday, scoring 71 points on a 15:23 average through a 23-second spread. We'll see how the averages shake out by the end of the weekend, but as it stands, that might be the No. 2 team time in the country after this weekend.

And for a team that is hinging its hopes on a national run, Bentonville's performance spoke volumes. James American Horse and Owen Kelley went 9-10 for the squad, while all five of its scorers were inside the top 30 places. 

Denton Braswell's Aleksandr Acuna continued to shine, winning the boys race in 14:50.60. Only Andruw Villa, who followed him in 14:58, were under 15 minutes on the day. 

Braswell wasn't done.

In fact, the program swept both races. Macy Wingard, a fast-rising talent across the U.S. and a high school sophomore, won the girls field in 17:02.10. The win marked her second straight after an impressive debut of 17:21.30 at Marcus T. Her performance was also the third-fastest 5K of the weekend. 

Lucas Lovejoy, ranked No. 16 in the country to begin the season, won the team title with a 17:59 average on a 52-second spread.
