DES MOINES, Iowa -- Never give up.
That idea sprung to life within Kelly Ufodiama as mere meters remained in the girls 17-18yo 200 meter final on Friday at the AAU Junior Olympic Games.
She was trailing. And still trailing.
It was nearly over, but Ufodiama, a rising senior at Round Rock Cedar Ridge, had one final burst in the final five meters to close on Ohio Heat's Maira Scott.
Ufodiama's winning time of 23.77 (-0.7) was the fastest of her career and was just three-hundredths of a second better than Scott, who hadn't lost a single race at 200 meters all season long.
