Unlike many other events, the discus is dominated by seniors in 2023. Of the top 16 throwers, currently 14 of them are fourth-year athletes.
At the top of the rankings, there are 11 throwers who have eclipsed 190 feet and two already over 200 feet. David Hicks, Jr. of Paetow (TX) moved to U.S. No. 1 after his performance at the District 19-6A meet last week, producing a mark of 202-2. One day later, J'dyn Bullion of Bellevue (NE) also went over 200 feet with his throw of 200-6.
Knocking on the door of the 200 Club is Junior Payton-Kimble (NC), who has a best of 198-7. Payton-Kimble is currently undefeated in both the shot put and discus this season and is a great story after throwing it just 136-6 last year.
