Alexander Chukwukelu Enters Record Books At Texas Relays

There was no bigger stage for Alexander Chukwukelu to make a statement than the Texas Relays this weekend in Austin.

Because while the North Forney senior had finished the indoor season with the No. 2 time in the country for the 60 meter hurdles in 7.71, and he had won a national title at Nike Indoor Nationals, perhaps the jury was still out.

Was he for real?

Well, on Friday and Saturday, Chukwukelu proved it.

In fact, during the first round of action on Friday, he ran the second-fastest all conditions time in 110mH history, clocking a finishing time of 13.16 (+4.0), which was just a shade behind Wayne Davis' all-time 13.08 (+2.0) from 2009.

Davis' time, importantly, was wind-legal, so he's in the book as the fastest in high school history, regardless of conditions. But Chukwukelu made a dent into the record books at the Texas Relays.

Then on Saturday, he finished the job, winning the Division II race in 13.32 (+2.0) seconds. This time, it was legal. And better yet, it slotted into the record book as the fifth-best performance in history.

Moreover, it represented a 0.6 second jump from his best mark of 13.91 seconds last year from the USATF Junior Olympics.
