Freshman Skyler Franklin Stole The Show At Ellis Elite 16
It's safe to say that Western (FL) ninth-grader Skyler Franklin could be the next star to rise through the ranks in the Florida sprint scene.
On Saturday at the Ellis Elite 16 Invitational, it was the freshman took down older talent to come away with two wins and nation-best outdoor marks.
It began in the emerging elite girls 100m with an 11.81 (-1.0) winning mark, which would have also won the elite girls section, a race that sophomore Florida star Aleesa Samuel took home in 11.90. (-0.1).
But Franklin bumped up to the elite section for the 200m, where she took down Samuel head-to-head with a new US No. 1 23.56 (-0.8), more than half a second ahead of Samuel in second in 24.16.
Now, Franklin holds nation-leading marks in the 200m and the 400m thanks to a 53.37 performance at the Louie Bing Invitational two weeks ago. Her 100m mark also puts her at US No. 5 on the leaderboards.
It's only March, but Franklin has already made a name for herself in the opening days of outdoor.
