At the PTFCA Indoor State Championships, we were able to see another matchup between two of the top distance runners in the country in the mile.

Drew Griffith of Butler and Brian DiCola of Hatboro Horsham ran a tactical eight lap race at the Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track.

Despite there being a tight pack in the beginning, eventually, with 800m left to go, it was Griffith and DiCola taking turns leading. The biggest move came from Griffith with 100m left to go, which changed the outcome of this race.

The junior put his head down, sprinted to the finish and crossed the line in a new personal best of 4:07.24 to win his first-ever indoor state title. DiCola, who also set a new lifetime best, finished closely for second in a 4:08.73. Their performances were exceptional as they clocked the Pennsylvania No. 3 and No. 7 all-time marks in state history.
