Gorze And Crater, Nenow and Portland Jesuit Highlight Oregon State Champs

- - -

Saturday's Oregon State Championships saw impressive team performances from the best programs in the Northwest led by

Portland Jesuit in the 6A classification and Crater in the 5A division had some of their best team performances of the season, as well as came away with individual state titles.

Beginning with 6A, Jacob Nenow led the Jesuit squad to a team win, with Nenow himself taking the individual title in 15:06.20 for a 190 speed rating.

The runners behind Nenow sealed the deal for Jesuit. Gus Clevenger (third overall), Joshua Augustine (fifth overall) and Caden Swanson (eighth overall) put four in the top 10 for the Portland-based squad, with freshman Matthew Wroblewski rounding out their top five with a 19th-place finish. That gave Jesuit a 33-point score and finished 51 points in front of runner-up Lincoln with 84 points.

A closer look at the stats show just how dominant Jesuit's performance was -- they recorded a 15:50 average and a 53-second split to win the field.

In the 5A field, a similar narrative unfolded for a Tyrone Gorze-led Crater boys program.

MileSplit50 No. 3 Gorze clocked 14:37.90 -- his fastest grass 5k of the season -- to win individually by 40 seconds and earn his second consecutive state title. That performance also gave the University of Washington commit his fastest speed rating of the season of 199.

Behind the win from Gorze, Crater took home a 6A title similarly to how Nenow and Jesuit dominated in 5A. Crater also put four runners in the top 10, including Josiah Tostenson in sixth and Caleb Doddington, Tayvon Kitchen and Shaun Garnica at 8-9-10 to amass a low 30 points for the team win.

A 15:34 team 5k average stood out in the competition as Crater won commandingly by 63 points over Wilsonville in second place.
