At its core, cross country is a rather team-oriented sport, and individual placement in any given meet field can make a significant difference in team title hopes.
That makes having a cohesive top-five group of runners crucial for success in team title races.
Among girls teams in the nation, a handful of programs have notably small spreads from their first runner to their fifth. For instance, seven teams have 1-through-5 splits under 20 seconds, with Preston (ID), Glastonbury (CT) and Rancho Cucamonga (CA) leading the way as programs with splits under 18 seconds.
