Ahead of the Manhattan College Cross Country Invitational this weekend -- a historic 4k race -- we look at which athletes populate the top of the national leaderboard right now at the distance, as well as the greatest 4k cross country performances in history.
On the boys side, it's a rather tight rankings list this season, as the top athletes find themselves separated by mere fractions of a second in some cases.
Rocklin (CA) senior Devin Pereira holds the US No. 1 spot currently behind his 12:17.11 win at the Oakmont Invitational on Aug. 27. But right behind with a season's best of 12:17.90 is Folsom's Nathan Short, who finished in a narrow second place to Pereira at Oakmont.
In total, three boys have clocked sub-12:20 times for 4k, and six guys have dipped under 12:30.
