The Scoop: Labor Day Weekend Produced Impressive XC Results

Dominykas Remeikis And Will Brunner Battle To The Line At Cheyenne Mountain Stampede

The Cheyenne Mountain Stampede in Colorado Springs on Sept. 2 saw some of Colorado's top distance athletes compete head-to-head for early-season individual wins.

And with that stiff competition came quite the exhilarating showdown in the seeded boys race.

Both Dominykas Remeikis (Summit) and Will Brunner (Battle Mountain) wanted that win, and it was a victory determined by just fractions of a second.

The two gutted it out over the final 100 meters, running stride-for-stride and gritting their teeth as the crowd roared with excitement. It was Remeikis who surged ahead ever so slightly just before the line, taking the win by a hair over Brunner. 15:39.30 for Remeikis put him just a tenth of a second ahead of Brunner's runner-up time of 15:39.40 in what proved to be an entertaining showdown between the two upperclassmen.

Both competitors came away with times that rank them among the top five athletes in Colorado for 5k thanks to the mutually-beneficial competition that pushed each other to the finish.
