2020 - Erriyon Knighton Takes Down 200m Record In 20.33
- - -
Erriyon Knighton turned some heads and rose some eyebrows in 2020 at the AAU Junior Olympic Games with his astounding performances in the sprints.
In his second season of competing, Knighton clocked the fastest time in the 100m and 200m at the championships. He sprinted to a 10.29 (-0.4) to grab his first gold of the meet.
However, arguably, his biggest performance came from the 200m.
Knighton, as we are used to seeing, destroyed the first turn to add separation between him and the rest of the field. At the time, the freshman ran a 20.33 (+0.3), which tied for US No. 6 all-time.
Last week, the 18-year-old and recent Hillsborough (FL) graduate became the 2022 World Athletic Championship bronze medalist in the 200m with a 19.80 (+0.4).
