PHILADELPHIA -- There's nothing like a statement race.
And on Thursday, the crowd could feel it.
During the early morning hours of Day 1 at the Penn Relays, the Edwin Allen (JAM) girls blitzed through competition in the final sections of the 4x100 preliminaries, posting a jaw-dropping time of 44.64 seconds to easily float into the Championship of American final on Friday.
That time -- done without blocks, mind you -- would rank No. 3 all-time in the high school ranks.
But in Jamaica, it might just be standard operating procedure.
For a team that entered competition with a best of 44.63 seconds, they left everyone in attendance wondering what the encore might be on Friday at 4:20 p.m. EST.
