A rising star is up and coming in the girls pentathlon.
Maddie Pitts of Victor (NY) has been a competitive gymnast for seven years. In 2019 was when she started to experiment with track and field events.
Two years later, Pitts decided to be all in with the sport and try the pentathlon. She never regretted that decision.
Pitts competed in the multis twice last year and ended up scoring 3163 points to be US No. 5. This indoor season, in her first-ever pentathlon, she scored 3413 to become the New Balance Nationals Indoor champion.
"It doesn't feel real," Pitts told MileSplit at New Balance Nationals Indoor. "This has been a huge goal of mine for so long so it feels amazing."
