UIL State Track and Field Class 6A Champions

Ervin was named the USTFCCCA National High School Track and Field Coach of the Year in August after leading his Summer Creek boys to a UIL Class 6A Track and Field title in June.

And the squad did it with just five qualifiers to the state championships.

But behind Ervin's guidance, the program won three events outright -- Barry Richards in the 110mH, Jalan Rivers in the high jump and Kevin Grubbs in the discus -- and then didn't disappoint when it needed to finish in the 4x400, finishing second overall in 3:15.59 -- a U.S. No. 15 result.

All four of Summer Creek's top athletes -- Richards, Rivers, Grubbs, Darius Rainey -- were among the nation's best in their respective events.

The team capitalized when the time called for it. Ervin's steady presence ultimately made a big difference. He was the third coach from Texas to earn the national honor from the USTFCCA.
