Fairview's (CO) Gavin Schurr, one of the nation's top sprinters and the No. 25 athlete in MileSplit's Class of 2021 rankings, announced his commitment to the University of Southern California on Thursday.

Schurr picked USC over Oregon, University of Oklahoma, UCLA, Iowa, Virginia Tech, and TCU, among many others.

There's no doubt his senior year has been a breakout one. This outdoor season, he was second at the adidas Boost Boston Games by five-thousandths of a second with a 10.45 (-1.2).

Earlier in the season he won the NSAF USA Meet of Champions in the 100m where he ran a US No. 6 wind-legal mark of 10.36. Schurr ran his first sub-21-second performance outdoors at the BYU Cougar Invitational in a US No. 3 performance of 20.52.

There was promise from the indoor season, though. Schurr posted the country's second-fastest time in 200m of 20.84 and the fourth-fastest performance in the 55m in 6.73.

Schurr will be joining a program that is enriched with the tradition of developing sprinters and elite athletes. The immediate class will include another top-rated athlete, No. 7 Johnny Brackins, while the Trojans' 2020 class included Bullis School's Ashton Allen and Trey Knight. Two years ago, in 2019, USC picked up MileSplit50 indoor athlete of the year Brian Herron, along with his club teammate, Nicholas Ramey

Historically, though, the Trojans have tradition developing the nation's best. Andre De Grasse, indoor 400m world record holder Michael Norman, Connor McCullough, and '92 Olympic gold medalist Quincy Watts are a handful of men who competed for USC and made an Olympic team.

On the women's side Allyson Felix, Nia Ali, Dalilah Muhammed, and Tynia Gaither have showcased their talent for USC.

Schurr will get a chance to compete against a new generation of Trojans stars by 2022.
