The faster you are in the open 400m, the higher ceiling you'll potentially have in the 300mH or 400mH.
That you can't argue.
The two events are often tangibly linked, and it's one reason why you'll see most long hurdle specialists feature in the 400m across the track season in order to improve their efficiency and speed.
In this stats-dive, we wanted to see just how athletes have translated that speed into hurdle performance. And so, when looking at both events, what's important is differential.
The shorter the differential between 400m speed and the 400mH, the more technically proficient the hurdler might potentially be. Note: While there is no straight correlation between the 400m and the 300mH, the opposite may be true -- the higher the differential, the more proficient a hurdler may be.
With that being said, check out the stats.
