Riley Hough Runs The Second Fastest Time In Michigan History On The State Course

Michigan's LP State Division I Championship race may have been underwhelming, considering the state's top two large school runners did not go head-to-head against one another.

But at the same time, it was pretty fire, too.

The day would ultimately see Hough, a junior from Hartland, and Hobbs Kessler, a senior from Ann Arbor Skyline, dual in a sort of time trial format that saw both parties branch out in separate sections, each racing with the intention of putting the Michigan record books on notice.

In some ways, they both did that.

Hough, however, just did Kessler a little bit better.

Hough would ultimately run the second-fastest time in course history, posting a career best effort of 14:49.62, while Kessler followed just two seconds later -- in the other section -- in 14:51.79.

The pair became the fifth and sixth runners to break 15 on the famed Michigan International Speedway course, only trailing legendary prep athlete Dathan Ritzenhein, who ran 14:10.40 on the course in 2000.
