In 2019, heading into his final season as a high school athlete, Apex (NC) High School senior Charles McBride had only cleared 7-feet in the high jump just once.
His benchmark performance came the previous July at the North Carolian USATF Junior Olympic Championships, as he cleared 7-0.25, a mark that ended the season at US No. 7.
But early the next April, he was already ready for a big mark, and the Apex Relays would set the stage for a stellar final year for the future Campbell Univesity athlete.
It wasn't long until McBride was the only athlete left registering attempts. Only one other athlete cleared a height of 6-8.
And soon enough, he raised the bar to 7-feet even, a height no one had ever cleared that height in 39 years.
Check out the attempt above.
