Before He Was An Olympic Champion: Rai Benjamin At Penn

Before he was an Olympic and NCAA champion, Rai Benjamin's career arc took him to the Penn Relays.

But back in 2015, he was just a senior at Mount Vernon High School in New York.

Surprisingly enough, Benjamin -- who would win an outright 400mH champion at the University of Southern California and several more in the 4x400 -- did not win the 400mH eight years ago.

That honor went to St. Elizabeth's Marvin Williams, who ran 51.10 to Benjamin's 51.29.

But obviously, Benjamin did not fret.

After spending part of his collegiate days at UCLA, he then transferred to USC and became a bonafide star alongside Michael Norman.

In 2021, Benjamin won an Olympic gold medal in the 4x400 and a silver in the 400mH. He was then second in the 400mH at the World Championships in 2022.
