Bojangles Classic Retro: Jayla Jamison's Sprint Double

In her debut season in high school in 2019, Jayla Jamison made a very big statement at the Bojangles Track and Field Classic.

A very big statement.

While the Airport (SC) High School freshman was faced up against some legitimate talent in both the 100m and 200m, the South Carolina athlete dropped national-level times anyway, securing a then-US No. 1 wind-legal time of 11.56 and a US No. 4 effort of 23.88 seconds in the 100m and 200m, respectively.

In a flash, Jamison announced her arrival as one of the top talents in the Class of 2023.

Retrospective: A month later, Jamison produced an incredible performance at the SCHSL Class 5A State Championships, posting wins in the 100m (11.62), 200m (24.02), 400m (54.92) and the long jump (19-11.75). And while Jamison never posted faster marks in 2019, she did perform at or above the level she set at Bojangles in June, finishing third at New Balance Nationals Outdoor in the 100m in 11.56 and third in the 200m in 23.19w. Those performances would land her No. 1 markers in the freshman class at the end of the 2019 season.
