Robinson, Mu Ready For Senior-Level Competition

SAN JOSE, COSTA RICA -- Fresh off a gold medal performance at 400 meters at the Pan American U20 Championships on Friday, Justin Robinson will transition immediately to a new challenge.

The Hazelwood West (MO) rising high school senior was hand-picked to represent Team USA in the 4x400 relay ahead of the Senior Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, according to Gateway City United Athletics Club coach Sean Burris, who's overseen Robinson's progress in 2019.

Track and field events at the Senior Pan American Games will take place from August 6-10.

Robinson will be in fine form. On Friday, he won his first international gold in the 400m with a US No. 4 all-time performance of 45.04 seconds, a No. 2 career time which followed his 44.84 from the Great Southwest Classic in early June.

Within the past two months Robinson has surged into the all-time charts in the 400m. He's produced four sub-46 times, including a national championship at the USA U20 Championships in Miramar, Florida, where won in 45.59.

USA Seniors Up Next For Mu

Speaking of senior-level performances, Trenton Track Club's Athing Mu will also line up for a massive effort next week at the USA Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.

Mu is entered in the 800m, where she will hope to best her overall PR of 2:01.38, which she produced in June at the Music City Distance Carnival.

Mu, like Robinson, also will be in pristine form. She won gold at the Pan American U20 Championships in the 800m, crossing the finish in a winning time of 2:05.50.
