The Amazing Alaskan Runner Who Doubles In Nordic Skiing

Kendall Kramer proved to be one of the best runners in Alaska history this fall when she ran the second fastest girls 5K time ever recorded at the state championships in Anchorage.

She was just the second girl to break 18 minutes--and in Alaska, where treading through snow and ice is part of the job, that's saying something.

The West Valley High School junior won her second straight title, this time in 17:51.10, and to some astute observers she was inching closer to achieving something special: Entering the stratosphere of another all-time great, Allie Ostrander, a Kenai Central graduate who won three titles of her own from 2012-2014 and set the state championship course record in 2014 in 17:06.00.
