Cole Sprout got a lot of coverage this spring after his epic distance year in Colorado -- and rightfully so -- but you might be surprised to know he's got some serious competition in 2019.

While Sprout, a Valor Christian (CO) sophomore, has slowly gained steam throughout the outdoor season as a possible NXN contender next fall, we shouldn't forget about Jesuit (CA) second-year Matt Strangio, who won a CIF title in the 3200m in June.

Strangio currently has the top 1600-3200m combined performance from 2018 -- OK, sidetrack here, Cole Sprout's 8:49 2-mile at Brooks PR converts to a 8:45 3200m, but on en route 3200m technically that doesn't count in this case -- and could make a case for a big outing next fall, too.

Sprout finished 21st at NXN in 2017, while Strangio was 15th.

Who's the best distance sophomore?
