The Scoop: Recapping A Massive Weekend Of Action At New Balance Nationals Indoor

Eleven-second deficit?

No problem.

North Rockland (NY) High sophomore Katelyn Tuohy chased down a significant deficit on the 1600m anchor of the girls DMR at New Balance Nationals Indoor on Friday, helping her squad claim a well-earned victory in a new US No. 1 time of 11:44.38.

After solid legs by Haleigh Morales, Sofia Housman, and Deandra Francois, Tuohy took the stick with a little less than a 100-meter deficit for the final eight laps and threw down a dominant 4:38.63 leg that gapped Saratoga Springs (NY) High junior Kelsey Chmiel -- who started with about a 5-10 meter lead.

Chmiel found the lead early in the 1600m, but later faded behind a strong effort by Tuohy. Saratoga Springs eventually moved to second in a US No. 2 time of 11:52.96. Chmiel went 4:48 for the anchor.

This begins Tuohy's quest to help North Rockland to three national titles, including two more attempts in the SMR and the girls 2-mile on Saturday and Sunday.
