The Scoop: Dunk Challenge, Outdoors Efforts In Miami And Making Good Of USAs

* Ryan Raff discusses his big effort in the 3200m this weekend at Simplot

3. Throwing Down At The Simplot Games

An indoor west coast championship of sorts, The Simplot Games saw some incredible efforts go down, including some continued greatness from Arria Minor in the sprints, another big outing from Sondre Guttormsen in the pole vault and big-time throw-downs by Sadie Sargent and Ryan Raff in the distance events.

Minor doubled in both the 60m (7.40) and 400m (53.47), while Guttormsen broke a 32-year-old record in the pole vault, completing a height of 17-8.5.

Interesting side note: Guttormsen also went 8.23 seconds in the 60mH.

But it was Sargent, who cruised to a 1600m prelim time of 5:07.10 before dropping a US No. 2 effort of 4:52.65 in the finals, outrunning Carlee Hansen in the final straight away. Raff (above), meanwhile, was racing for just the second time this winter and produced a US No. 2 mark in the 3200m (at the time it was US No. 1), going 9:04.94.
