200m Race
Miami Garden Express's Tyrese Cooper ran three events at the Great Southwest Indoor Track and Field Classic and ran US top five times or better in all three.
Cooper kicked off his night running a new US No. 5 time of 6.83 in the 60m dash. After his 60m performance, he ran 47.55 in the 400m dash for a new US No. 4 time. He then finished off his night with a 21.38 in the 200m dash for US No. 4.
Cooper's times in both the 200m and 400m are new Great Southwest Track and Field Classic meet records. Both records were previously held by 2016 Canyon High School (TX) graduate Norman Grimes. The 200m record was 21.52 and the 400m record was 48.50.
This was only Cooper's second indoor meet of the season. In his first indoor meet at The VA Showcase, Cooper ran US No. 3 in the 300m with a time of 33.12 and US No. 1 in the 500m with a time of 1:03.18.
The junior now holds a top-10 time in the nation in every event from the 60m dash to the 500m.
