3. Mason Gatewood Takes Big Win At Manhattan
With his win on Saturday at the Eastern States Championship at the Manhattan Invitational, it's safe to say the word is out on Saint Anthony's (NY) senior Mason Gatewood.
But in reality, the signs were there a few weeks ago.
Gatewood finished second in 15:32.00 at the Ocean States Invitational on September 22, picking up a solid speed rating of 187.
Saturday's winning performance of 12:17.40 in the Manhattan Invitational's top boys race is essentially in line with his season's progress. He picked up his best speed rating of the season, too, logging an impressive mark of 191.
Gatewood didn't enter Eastern States as a favorite to win. And this fall he's sort of been the charmer of New York, shooting past his so-so performances of 2016.
So just consider this your warning. Don't sleep on Gatewood anymore.
