Below, we take a look at a comparative list of 600 of the nation's best runners in the final 400m. Note: This list only takes into account runners with BOTH a 5K time from 2016 and a 400m time from the most recent 2017 track season.
Based on the information, Bellarmine (California) College Prep rising senior Alex Scales may have inherited the title of 'fastest kick' (among the top 10 5K times with combined performances), considering his top 400m from this past spring was 49.78 seconds. Just 14 boys out of nearly 600 with combined times have run under 50 seconds for 400m meters.
That unequivocal speed ultimately adds up to some blazing finishes in the final moments -- and that speed will ultimately help athletes like Alex Scales, who also has 1:50.64 800m speed, take big leaps when it matters most.
