4. Best Track State? Don't Forget About California
While the argument of best track and field state between Texas and Florida has been brewing for weeks now, California finally made a case - as it does every year - for their inclusion, too.
What helps California's role into that argument is their system. Athletes who qualify for the CIF Track and Field Championships only vie for one title - while Texas and Florida have multiple classifications, muddying the overall performances.
California's two-date title event had 866 elite performances, including a rare triple by Agoura High senior and University of Georgia signee Tara Davis (LJ, TJ, 100mH), a never-been-done double in the girls 300mH and 400m by Norco High's Shae Anderson, and an all-time effort in the boys 110m hurdles by Upland High's Joseph Anderson.
Anderson was the first to earn that 110mH-300mH double since Johnathan Cabral in 2010.
Some national names also won their first titles: Armijo High's Luis Grijalva in the 1600m (4:08.62) and San Luis Obispo High's Callum Bolger in the 3200m (8:53.91). California High's Alyssa Brewer also earned her second consecutive title in the 800m in 2:07.07.
