Timpanogos hopes to sweep the girls and boys Class 4A state championships on Wednesday.
Class 4A Girls
Saucony Flo50 Teams: #23 Mountain View, #24 Timpanogos
Individual Challengers: Kate Hunter (Provo)
Timpanogos and Mountain View placed 1-2 at the 2015 state championship with 69 and 88 points, respectively. The Timberwolves graduated just two runners from their state title-winning squad but recently fell to Mountain View at the Region 7 Championships, 43 to 47 points.
That win helped Mountain View sneak into the national rankings for the first time, though Timpanogos has the better pack (30-second spread compared to 62-second spread at regionals) and may benefit from a larger field at the state meet. The Timberwolves also picked up a nice big-league victory at the Nike Portland XC Invite earlier this season over Saucony Flo50 18th-ranked Sunset and No. 19 Summit.
Provo senior Kate Hunter, a 2015 Foot Locker finalist, looks poised to defend her individual title. Her only loss this fall was a fourth-place finish at Bob Firman behind No. 24 ranked Anna Gibson, whom she defeated at the BYU Autumn Classic, and Whitney Rich and Sara Musselman, who compete in Class 5A.
