Ultimate Roy Griak Recap: Top 5 Takeaways

Khalid Hussein on 4th place finish and Wayzata win. Interview by Andrea Mayeux

1) Wayzata

These guys are currently ranked #9 in the US. Hopefully our boys Flo50 rankings master Billy Cvecko is listening...MOVE THEM UP!

What a race by Wayzata! Khalid Hussein solidifies himself as a legitimate front runner. He maintained his position with the lead pack during the entire race to cross the line in 4th place. Where was the rest of Wayzata's scorers? Well, through the 1K mark, the remaining six of their varsity squad were running in 70th. They executed their race plan to perfection. The whole pack moved up as a group throughout the race. They crossed the line with a THREE second 2-5 split and all in the top 30. With their final two runners just a few seconds back and also finishing in the top 35, they displaced multiple scorers on all the other teams fighting for a top 5 finish at Roy Griak.

Often the 1-5 team depth is stressed so much because it's very rare to have strong 6 and 7 runners at the high school level. Wayzata shows they have a complete cross country team. Hussein is their low stick, and with six upperclassmen, this experienced group showed they can execute a flawless race plan.

Are they contenders for a national title in 2016? In short...YES!
