Chanel Brissett Runs No. 3 All-Time 100m Hurdles, Advances To Semi-Finals

Chanel Brissett got some sweet redemption at the U.S. Olympic Trials, as she broke 13 seconds for the first time in the 100m hurdles with a final time of 12.95 (+0.2). She placed fifth in her prelim heat and will advance to the semi-final. The rising senior at Cheltenham High School in Pa. now ranks No. 3 on the all-time list.

Brissett is the reigning New Balance Nationals Outdoor champion, but placed only sixth in the finals at USATF Juniors in her bid to make the World Juniors team.

Noah Lyles & Michael Norman Scorch 200m Prelims

Noah Lyles of T.C. Williams, Va. made a statement in Heat 1 of the 200m prelims, winning the section outright with a blazing time of 20.04 (+3.3). That time ties for No. 2 all-time, all-conditions.

Three sections later, fellow recent high school graduate Michael Norman also won his prelim in an all-time fast mark -- 20.06, though his time was also aided by 2.8 meters per second. Norman now ranks No. 3 all-time, all-conditions.

After six prelim heats, the high schoolers' wind-aided times stood as the fastest marks of the day.

National Record Holder Sydney McLaughlin Easily Advances To Semi-Finals

Sydney McLaughlin of Union Catholic, N.J. easily advanced to the semi-finals of the 400m hurdles by winning her prelim section in 55.46. Fellow prep Anna Cockrell raced in the same section; she ran 56.63 to place fifth.

McLaughlin's time was the second-fastest of the day; Dalilah Muhammad of Nike was the fastest qualifier to the semi-final round in 55.33.

Rain began to fall as the preps approached the track for the race, but weather conditions didn't deter McLaughlin - who holds the national high school record in the event.

"I think it was a good feeling," she said of the rain. "It wasn't too hot or too cold, it was a good feeling."

Many have pegged the 16-year-old as a potential pick for the Olympic team.

Of expectations at Hayward Field, the precocious prep simply said: "Just being able to come out here and compete is an honor."

Christina Aragon, Kate Murphy Both Run 4:14, Advance to 1500m Semi-Finals

High school phenoms Christina Aragon and Kate Murphy raced for the first time in the preliminary round of the 1500m; Aragon took third in 4:14.06 and Murphy was fourth in 4:14.11. Those times stood as the third and fourth-fastest of the evening.

The run was particularly impressive as both girls had to stay out of trouble when Alexa Efraimson and Rachel Schneider fell to the track. Both athletes still advanced to the final.

Both girls have rewritten the all-time list in the 1500m over the past two years: Murphy, a junior from Lake Braddock, Va., ranks No. 3 all-time at 4:07.21 and Aragon, a Stanford recruit from Billings, Mont., ranks No. 4 all-time at 4:09.27.

The only two girls to run faster while in high school are Mary Cain and Efraimson, who also advanced to Friday's semi-final round.
